Aeracule
A species of creatures noted for their longevity and ability to see glimpses of the future. An Aeracule can be identified by their pure black eyes. Each member of this race is tied to a forest or location and should one perish the other will not survive. They protect all that dwell within their set environment and those that live there are fiercely loyal to their Aeracule to the point of giving up their own lives.
The Aeracule life line is marked by periods of life, death, and then rebirth. While no number has been placed on the limit of reincarnations the eldest Aeracule has risen more than one hundred times. This is not to say an Aeracule cannot be killed. Certain factors can keep an Aeracule from coming back and they can make this decision on their own as well but this secret is guarded zealously and never spoken of.
Aeracules trace their roots back to their oldest living ancestor Ravinica 'The Protector'. The Aeracule family is wide spread, branching as far from as close as the human world of Terra to the as far reaching as Celestine on the planet Ide.
In present day most Aeracule live on or near the floating biospheres created to house large forests in the void of space. The largest of these spheres, the Corrinth is kept by Calisto 'The Teacher' and her fellowship The Nine.
The Protector
Wrongly named 'The Predator' by humans, her real name is Ravinica. While her early history is unclear what is certain is that she is the oldest known living Aeracule at this time. The earliest traces of her are found on the planet Terra where her father was none other than King Delphinias himself. Put to death on charges of demon possession she left a lasting mark on this kingdom when she was reputed to have placed a lasting curse on her sister Calisto just prior to her death.
Later texts show her posing as a man and becoming an elite soldier in the service of the Kingdom of Zahnith. There she, worked her way up the ranks and became close with the Crown Prince, Cameron, later becoming his personal bodyguard. Things soured when the the prince followed her into the neighboring forest (incidentally her soulterra) and overheard a conversation he took to be plans of treason. Not knowing what to do he decided to see where this matter would lead but later came back with a troupe of soldiers. Being found out, and fearing attack, he charged the small band of creatures Ravinica was with and ultimately killed her when she refused to fight. In the aftermath of the carnage he found to his horror that Ravinica was innocent and had been meeting with the group in an effort to stop a treasonous plan by his Aunt, a powerful sorceress, who wanted the thrown for herself. Ravinica's body was laid to rest on a cliff within her forest that overlooked the castle and where Cameron could come and visit often.
A gap in the histories exists for five years after which, she suddenly re-appears to help destroy the Sorceress, Christiana. At this time, she and Cameron were reunited but things remained strained between them for quite some time. During this period of estrangement reference is made to a 'Dark One' showing up at the wedding of Calisto 'The Teacher' and the then mercenary Nicholai. The texts say that this intruder fought mind to mind with Calisto (who at that time was believe to be the oldest and strongest of the Aeracules) and won forcing Calisto to tell Nicholai the truth about the pain she would suffer if he was not converted to an Aeracule. Unofficiated hyphothesis states that this must have been her older sister Ravinica as she is the only known creature with mentally abilities stronger than Calisto's own.
After this Ravinica appears to have made some decisions. She is believed to have spent much of the time away from her beloved prince, in her Soulterra working on destroying the residual traps left by Christiana and setting up a new base of power for her people. However, a threat to Cameron appears to have brought her out of hiding and she returned to her role as his bodyguard for a short time before dispatching the new threat to him. At this time he vowed never to leave her side and indeed they are still together to this day.
The Teacher
Second eldest of the Aeracules, Calisto, The Teacher is much loved and best known of this reclusive race. Never alone, she is ever in the presence of her elite band of warriors 'The Nine.'
Calisto shows up in history during the reign of King Delphinias, the self proclaimed 'Cursed King of Cerinnai.' She was the second child of the King and his then Queen (Rushera 'The Bearer of Demons') but through a twist of fate became Crown Princess at birth when her sister publicly admitted to demon possession and was executed. Fear that the younger sister would follow in her sister's footsteps, after Queen Rushera was found dead only hours after the childbirth, were laid to rest when the child had an unremarkable appearance and demeanor in contrast to her elder sibling who had pitless black eyes. The only unexplained phenomenon surrounding her was the peculiar habit of people around her to be caught up in accidents or scandals. Death and the truth had a way of popping up frequently around her leading to great turmoil within the country. Believing it was her doing her father took steps to haver her silence but his attempt failed ominously when the King himself was struck down in a freak accident the night of the intended murder. He survived but it soon became apparent that he was now quite mad, claiming he could see his long dead eldest daughter and would scream at her
